The island of socotraThe small Socotra archipelago belongs to Yemen and is located in the middle of the Indian Ocean. This island is distinguished by its unique flora and fauna. More than 800 plant species grow here, many of which are not found anywhere else in the world.
The most famous plants of Socotra are glass tree and cinnabar dracaena, which is also a symbol of the island. Plants are of great importance for the beauty of the islands. Dracaena reaches a height of 10 meters and looks like a mushroom with a cap. And the glass tree is actually a shrub with a thick trunk and bright red flowers.
Goreme National Park
The spectacular scenery of Goreme National Park in Cappadocia, Turkey is very popular among tourists. The park consists of many strange rock formations formed by erosion.
Apart from its appearance, Goreme has great historical significance. The first settlements appeared here since the 4th century. Houses were built underground to protect against Arab invasions.
Later, a cave nun grew up here. In total, there are about 10 churches from the 6th to 9th centuries, as well as residential and office buildings. The interior of the underground temples is richly decorated, including Byzantine icons.
Shilin stone forest
Shilin Stone Forest is part of the South China Karst and is protected by UNESCO. Shilin is an amazing phenomenon - a forest of high stone and limestone blocks that look like huge stalactites.
Local people believe that a young girl suffering from unhappy love turned into such a rock. In fact, this stone forest is more than 270 million years old and it grows in a dry salt sea.
Shilin stone forest is very popular among tourists. You can get to it from Kunming, where bus trips are observed.
Chocolate hills
Chocolate Hills is located in the province of Bohol, Philippines. They are not actually made of chocolate, but of volcanic materials, limestone and karst. The hills are covered with green grass that turns brown during drought - hence the name.
The mountains cover an area of 50 square kilometers. In addition, they are relatively low: the height of the largest hill reaches 120 meters. In total, there are 1260 to 1776 such hills.
The chocolate hills themselves are under state protection, but you can admire them from observation platforms equipped in neighboring towns. One of them, Sagbayan Peak, looks like the Great Wall of China
